The current outbreak of corona virus disease (COVID-19) has been declared as a pandemic due to the alarming levels of spread and severity. Till date, there is no specific medicine to treat or prevent COVID-19. Government of India is taking all necessary steps to ensure that we are prepared well to face the challenge and threat posed by the growing pandemic of COVID 19 – the Corona Virus.
However there is panic and fears among the people as the nation is lockdown. These preventive measures also affected the normalcy of livelihood of the people namely the poor, migrant and daily laborers, Toto drivers (Rickshaw pullers), bricklin workers, construction workers, and flower suppliers, Hawkers, stranded migrant workers etc of Nadia and Murshidabad districts. They are all clueless and suffering without food and basic essential goods for their living. The whole families starve due to lack of food as they were not able to go for their work to earn.
Need for Intervention by KCCSS:-
Keeping all these things in mind, KCCSS felt that external intervention is needful for reduction of vulnerability of the poor community members of the area. It would be a timely assistance for the people if we are able to help them by providing Sanitizer materials, Family Survival kits namely food materials, temporary shelters namely tarpaulin etc. Our service and support in the form of dry food materials will help the people to ease their pain and able to have a meal per day at least for a week.
Impact:-
The poor, daily labourers and migrant families of Nadia and Murshidabad districts will receive hygiene kits (masks and soaps) and dry food items that will help them sustain during the time of lock down.
Objective:-
- To provide dry ration – food support to poor and vulnerable families have lost their daily wage due to loss of working days (because of lockdown).
- To provide hygiene kits to migrant families in to keep them safe and protected from COVID -19.
Strategies:-
KCCSS will mobilize local volunteers coordinate and facilitate the smooth distribution of relief items to the migrant families of Nadia and Murshidabad.
- With the help of local administration and community will identify the poor and vulnerable migrant families – families having pregnant / lactating mothers, old/aged, PLWDs, children and widows.
- Identify warehouse for storage of relief materials, Venue for distribution and keeping in mind social distancing and safety measures.
- Before giving the hygiene, kits demonstrate- Correct Hand Wash technique, Use of Mask, cleaning of mask and proper disposal of mask.
